Things to do this weekend? If you haven’t why don’t you draw with me??

I’ve done an introduction to drawing (two parts on Instagram TV) which will show you how to draw…..and how mindful it is! Have fun!! 😊 Part One.

🔴 🟡 THE MINDFUL PROCESS OF DRAWING 🤔 PART ONE @kimwhitbyart #kimwhitbyart *THIS IS IN TWO PARTS as IGTV will not allow a film over 10 minutes unless millions of you follow me! Suitable for ADULTS, STUDENTS and any CHILDREN who are old enough to understand what I am explaining. I will aim to unpack the nuts and bolts of the basic drawing process and reflect on the absorbing nature of the act of observational drawing. This activity is about the process of observational drawing and less about the drawn product 😉 I will be…. Drawing from a still life in pencil. I will demonstrate circular shapes, simple perspective, ellipses and negative spaces ….all in less than 20 minutes! YOU WILL NEED 🤔 *Paper, card, envelope…..or anything you can draw on. *Pencil, biro, felt pen…..or anything you can draw with. *And SOME STILL LIFE ITEMS. Try to find items which are unusual and which you are less familiar with. Alternatively view more familiar objects in unexpected ways eg turn a bottle on its side/balance a shoe upside down…. Many thanks to Alain De Botton for capturing a few thoughts on drawing which I like to share with drawing students. I read this at the end of the video but think you might like to see them to read, as they really are very clever observations about the process of drawing. “The very act of drawing an object, however badly, swiftly takes the drawer from a woolly sense of what the object looks like to a precise awareness of its component parts and particularities.” Alain de Botton @alain_de_botton #drawing #drawingforall #drawingteaching @alain_de_botton #drawing #drawingforall #drawingteaching #mindfuldrawing #mindfulness #drawingprocess @etta_mac #drawingprocessvideo #isolationartschool #artistsupportpledge @artacademyondon @stbarbemuseum @westdeancollege @schoolhouseforart #artistsoninstagram #observationaldrawing @aspexportsmouth #calmingcontent

Sorry I Forgot!

In all the excitement of success yesterday (I had been trying to post a filmed demo for two days!) I completely overlooked reposting the links onto my WordPress and FB page.

As part of #isolationartschool I have made a film about a small aspect of using Ink. Please take a look if you’d like to…

There are two links as the length meant it refused to post as one whole session. 👍

Ink and Water-Based Drawing Skills. PART ONE. (The next half is posted separately as PART TWO) #isolationartschool 🔴 AN INTRODUCTION TO WATER BASED DRAWING with ink. PART ONE Suitable for anyone who has ever tried watercolour or would like to get started. The session includes video in real time and time-lapse. I will be demonstrating…. Using the paper as the white. Planning how I leave the lightest tones. Showing you briefly how I use ink, which you might like to try. If you fancy giving this a go PLEASE WATCH FIRST then set up you own subject matter and WORK FROM OBSERVATION 👍 Next time I will revisit this subject matter in watercolour! “I use ink frequently when teaching watercolour. It allows students to develop many of the skills required to work in water colour, and learn more about tone , without the added pressure of mixing colours; which is a skill in its own right.” YOU WILL NEED 🤔 Watercolour paper Brushes/water/mixing pots/pencil Ink 🕷🕸 (or an alternative) blotting paper (or kitchen paper) Includes ideas of alternative wet media. Part two is posted separately and is now live! A FOLLOW UP DEMO OF THE SAME SUBJECT IN WATERCOLOUR IS ALSO ON ITS WAY SOON🎨 #isolationartschool #ink #watercolour @winsorandnewton #WNVirtualStudio #saunderswaterford #artistsupportpledge #artistsoninstagram @schoolhouseforart @artacademylondon @st_cuthberts_mill @stbarbemuseum @westdeancollege #watercolourlesson #kimwhitbyart #watercolor #observationalart #watercolorlesson #thingstodoinlockdown @aspexportsmouth

Irish teaching March 2020!

Really delighted to be a tutor in my first teaching outside the UK in 2020!
I’ll be in Ireland in March!! ☘️@schoolhouseforart 🎨Instagram doesn’t do links so please copy and paste – https://www.schoolhouseforart.com/classes/march2020-kimwhitby-inks or message @schoolhouseforart If you’d like to learn what I do with ink ….maybe you could ask Santa if you’d been good enough to come along? 🎅 Or please share with your Irish friends and family who might live a bit closer. I’ve more Hampshire and London teaching coming up in 2020 too, so you’d like to hear all about it and don’t get my MailChimp news letters please DM me. #ink #watercolour #worksonpaper #artireland #observationalart @stbarbemuseum #lymington @theartacademylondon #boroughmarket

Asparagus Time Lapse

Time for a #timelapse Still wet as you can see! We (my students and myself) made small watercolour studies on Saturday @theartacademylondon – Asparagus is a particularly good subject matter where the wetness of the Watercolour can be exploited to carry the colour variations of the paint up the stems. Remember guys “the clue’s in the name – ‘watercolour’! ” My photography needs some refinement…seems to be mostly inverted but you get the idea. Really liking the change in my paint brand, I can see a big difference in the pigment quality; so a big thanks to Royal Talens for this travel set. #watercolour #watercolor @royaltalensuk @royaltalens @moleskine #Asparagus #stilllife #observationalart ##rembrandtwatercolor #rembrandtwatercolour
